Considered the greatest sight seeing attraction in Barcelona, the Long Boulevard of La Rambla along which you will find features like the Columbus monument, La Rambla hotel, the 18th century mansion of the Palau de la Virreina and the food market of Boqueria market which is considered the greatest in the whole of Europe is a don’t-miss. Going south of the La Rambla and past Columbus monument is the Port Vell. Initially, it was the old port of the city but of late the Port Vell has seen the construction of bars, shopping mall and restaurant which have modernized it to levels never imagined. Another exciting experience is the boat excursion around the harbor and port Olimpic which hosted the sailing events in the Olympics of the year 1992.
Going northward from the Port Vell along the waterfront up to Barceloneta will be a worthy experience. Fish restaurants along Passeig de Joan Borbo all the way to the Barceloneta make for a good sight. The stretch has one of the best sandy beaches which the government created in the 1992 as part of the regeneration programme for the Olympics in that year. This strolls are usually very popular with visitor, especially, at the weekend.
Another of a must-see is the Montjuic hill overlooking the city of Barcelona, this hill holds one of the stadium used in the 1992 Olympic games, several art galleries include the famous Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya together with the fundacio Joan. Another feature from the 1992 Olympics is the Estadi Olimpic in Montjuic which held the finals of the athletic event that year. The 65,000 seating capacity stadium is a marvel that many tourists never fail to pay a visit.
The Gothic Quarter dating back to the 14th and 15th century is basically a maze of streets connecting the medieval square who’s Gothic Cathedral, Placa del Rei and the Ajuntament have made it to be one of the frequently visited historical site in Barcelona. The museum on Carrer de Veguer has also contributed to the increased number of tourists in the Gothic Quarter. This and many other sites make Barcelona the city of choice to many tourists.
