Plaça de Catalunya

Be prepared to be swept off your feet when you visit the Plaça de Catalunya. It is undoubtedly one of the busiest squares of Barcelona. Look upwards while you are in this plaza and you will find yourself surrounded by tall buildings from all sides. In case you have recently visited the Eixample district of Barcelona, then you might recall that one of the lanes from this plaza that leads to it.

The locals consider this place as the heart of the city as well as the point where the modern town is connected with some of the districts. This is perhaps one of the most important parts of the city and it is the point where some of the most important avenues and streets of Barcelona meet.

Apart from the shops and restaurants, the Plaça de Catalunya is also famous amongst tourists for its statues and fountains. If you are planning to check out the popular tourist attractions of the city, then you should make this your starting point, because Plaça de Catalunya lies shoulder in shoulder with some of the city’s most popular tourist attractions. The circular center of the square boasts of benches which you can use for relaxing.

Do not miss out viewing a recently added sculpture, the Monument a Francesc Macia, sculpted in the year 1991 by the famous sculptor Joseph Subirachs who was also one of the sculptors responsible for decorating the façades of Sagrada Familia… a famous church and yet another tourist attraction of Barcelona.
